Turned into my daily backpack

I originally ordered the Archer for occasional travel because I wanted something nicer than the nylon backpack I had been carrying. It ended up becoming my regular bag for work too. The slim shape is easy to manage on my commute, and I like having the front zipper for the smaller things I want to reach quickly. After more than a year the leather has softened and picked up some character without the bag losing its structured look.

Nice slim profile

I specifically wanted a backpack that didn't stick out too far when I was walking through crowded stations. The 10 cm depth keeps this one fairly close to my back.

Leather needed some breaking in

It felt a little firmer than I expected during the first few weeks. With regular use it has softened considerably and feels much better now. I actually like the way the shape has settled in while still looking neat enough for work.

Good setup for the office

Most of what I carry is fairly basic, so I didn't want a huge backpack with compartments everywhere. The main section takes care of my everyday things, and the front zip pocket is where I keep smaller items that I need throughout the day. It looks much more appropriate with office clothes than the sporty backpack I was using before.

Cognac looks great

I almost ordered Chocolate but went with Cognac. Glad I did. It has a warmer look and the leather is already starting to develop some variation from use.

Two years and still my work bag

This has been through two years of commuting, being set under desks, riding around in the car and coming along on several work trips. I wasn't looking for something I had to baby, and fortunately the Archer has handled regular use well. The leather doesn't look new anymore, but that's the part I like most. It has softened, picked up creases and developed a much more natural appearance. The zippers and straps are still doing their job, so I have no reason to replace it.

Front pocket gets used a lot

That's where my keys, charging cable and other little things end up. Nice not having to open the main compartment every time I need something small.

Looks professional

Simple design and no unnecessary decoration. Works well for the office without looking like a briefcase strapped to my back.

Slimmer than my old backpack

I underestimated how much difference the 10 cm depth would make compared with my previous bag. There's enough room for my normal day, but I have to be more selective when I'm carrying bulky items. On the positive side, it's much less cumbersome on my commute.

Much better than carrying a briefcase

For years I carried a leather briefcase because I liked the professional appearance, but I got tired of always having one hand occupied. The Archer gives me a similar polished look while being considerably easier to carry around. I take the train into the city several days a week and having both hands free is a bigger improvement than I expected. The leather has also broken in nicely over the past year.

Good height without the bulk

The 43 cm height gives it useful vertical space, but because the bag is only 10 cm deep it still has a fairly streamlined shape. That's a good combination for how I use it.

Looks better after being used

Mine has definitely changed since it was new. The leather was fairly uniform at first, but after more than a year of being handled every day there are natural variations and creases across the surface. I prefer it this way. It looks like a bag I've actually owned rather than something straight off a shelf, and the construction has held together well through all of that use.

Easy to carry

The shoulder straps adjust easily and the narrow profile keeps the bag from feeling awkward when I'm moving around.

A good city bag

I spend a lot of time walking between the office, train stations and meetings, and oversized backpacks are a nuisance in that setting. This has enough room for what I actually need while staying fairly close to my back. The leather also makes it look considerably nicer than the fabric bags I usually see on the commute.

Wouldn't mind another pocket

The front zip pocket and side sections cover most of what I need, although I wouldn't complain about having one additional small pocket inside. That said, the simpler layout does keep me from filling the bag with things I never use.

Chocolate is a great color

Dark enough to be understated but you can still see the natural character in the leather. It goes with pretty much everything I wear to work.

Good companion for short work trips

I don't use this as luggage, but it has become the backpack I bring along whenever I'm traveling for work. The structured shape makes it easy to keep my everyday essentials together, and the front pocket is convenient for the smaller items I want access to during the day. Once I arrive, it looks perfectly appropriate walking into an office or meeting. Mine has been through plenty of airports now and is holding up nicely.

Still looks appropriate for meetings

A year of regular use has softened the leather, but the rectangular shape still looks neat and presentable. That's important to me because I wanted something I could commute with and then carry straight into a meeting. The rounded top keeps it from looking too boxy, and there isn't a bunch of hardware or decoration competing for attention.

Just the right size for me

At 31 cm wide it gives me enough room for my everyday things without feeling like I'm carrying a travel pack around all day.

Good zipper setup

I like having a full zipper around the main section and another zipper across the front. Straightforward and easy to use.

Has handled almost two years of commuting

I carry this four or five days most weeks and haven't exactly been gentle with it. It goes on the floor next to my desk, gets squeezed onto crowded trains and occasionally gets tossed in the back seat when I'm running late. Nearly two years later it has plenty of signs that it has been used, but nothing that concerns me. The leather has developed a nice patina, the hardware still feels solid and the overall shape has held up better than I expected.

A little heavier than fabric

Coming from a lightweight fabric backpack, I noticed the difference immediately. Once I got used to carrying leather it stopped bothering me, and I prefer the appearance enough that I'm happy with the tradeoff.

A practical upgrade

I spent years buying inexpensive backpacks and replacing them whenever they started looking rough. I decided to try something in leather this time because I wanted a bag that could age rather than simply look worn out. Eighteen months later I'm glad I made the switch. The Archer has picked up marks and creases, but they suit the material. I also appreciate that the design is simple enough that it hasn't started looking dated.

Comfortable on longer days

I occasionally have days where I'm walking around downtown for hours between appointments. Being able to adjust the shoulder straps depending on what I'm carrying has made the bag comfortable enough for that kind of use.

Gift for my husband

My husband had been taking the same fabric backpack to work for years, so I got him the Chocolate Archer for his birthday. I wasn't sure if he'd actually switch because he tends to use things until they fall apart, but this replaced his old backpack immediately. He likes the simple layout and I think it looks much nicer with his work clothes. The leather has also started looking better now that he's had it for a while.
