I've carried the Billy to work almost every weekday for around a year and a half. It has enough depth for my laptop, charging cable, notebook, glasses case and a few smaller things without becoming cumbersome on the train. The chocolate leather now has some lighter marks around the corners and natural creasing across the front, which I actually prefer to the brand-new appearance. The handles, zipper and shoulder strap hardware are all still working exactly as they should.

The 9 cm depth is useful. I can add my charger and headphones without the sides looking stretched.

Good commuter bag

I usually carry it by the handles for shorter distances and use the shoulder strap when walking from the station. Once loaded with a laptop and accessories it has some weight to it, so having both carry options is genuinely useful.

Better than the bulky bag I replaced

My previous work bag had far too many compartments and was much larger than I needed. The Billy is simpler and noticeably easier to carry. There's enough space for everything I use during a normal office day, but not so much that I end up filling it with unnecessary things. After more than a year, the leather has softened slightly while the briefcase still maintains its shape.

I don't use it constantly, but it's great to have when I'm carrying the bag for more than a few minutes.

The leather gets better over time

I've had the cognac version for nearly two years and it has developed far more character than it had when new. The handles have darkened where I hold them, there are small scratches across the front and the corners have picked up some natural wear. I condition it every few months but otherwise don't baby it. Despite regular commuting, the stitching remains intact and the zipper still runs smoothly. It looks used now, but in exactly the way I wanted full-grain leather to age.

More capacity than it looks

The briefcase looks fairly slim from the front, but the 9 cm depth gives it a useful amount of room. I can fit my normal office essentials without any trouble. I wouldn't treat it like an overnight bag, but for a work briefcase the proportions are very practical.

Great for meetings and commuting

I wanted one bag that worked equally well on public transport and in more formal meetings. This has done both nicely. I use the shoulder strap while commuting and usually remove it once I'm at the office. The briefcase looks clean and structured when carried by the handles, and there's enough room inside for my computer and normal work essentials. Fifteen months of use has also given the leather a much nicer broken-in appearance.

Cognac has developed a great patina

The color has changed quite a bit after twenty months of regular use. Areas around the handles are darker, the front has picked up small marks and there is some natural variation around the edges. It has gone from looking very new to looking like a bag I've owned for years, which is exactly what I hoped for. Structurally, there have been no issues. Both handles are secure and the main zip continues to work smoothly.

A proper everyday briefcase

What I like most is that this isn't an enormous bag pretending to be a briefcase. It carries what I actually need for work while remaining manageable on my commute. The handles are comfortable for shorter walks and I switch to the shoulder strap when I have farther to go. More than a year in, it has become one of those things I use without really thinking about it.

Leather needed some breaking in

Mine felt quite firm when it first arrived, especially around the handles. A few months of regular use has softened it considerably while the body of the bag has remained nicely structured.

This has been my primary work bag for about two years. I commute several days a week and have also taken it on a number of business trips, so it has been used pretty hard. The leather now has scratches, creases and darker areas, but nothing has actually failed. The zipper remains smooth, the shoulder strap clips are solid and the handles haven't loosened. It has aged much better than the fabric laptop bags I used to replace every year or so.

Good choice for work travel

I've used the Billy on several short business trips alongside a carry-on suitcase. It holds the laptop, documents, charger and the smaller things I want accessible while traveling. The shoulder strap is particularly useful in airports when I need both hands free. Once I arrive, I can carry it by the handles and it looks appropriate for meetings.

Built for regular commuting

I don't treat mine particularly carefully. It gets put on train floors, under my desk and in overhead compartments whenever I travel. After seventeen months, there are plenty of signs of use on the leather but no structural problems. The stitching around the handles still looks good, the metal fittings remain secure and the zipper hasn't given me any trouble. The leather has also become softer and more comfortable to handle.

Watch how much you pack

The 9 cm depth means you can fit a fair amount inside, and I initially made the mistake of filling every bit of space. With just my normal work essentials it's much more comfortable to carry and keeps its shape better.

A worthwhile upgrade

I bought this to replace a synthetic laptop bag I'd been using for years. The Billy is obviously more substantial, but what surprised me was how practical it is. The top zip makes access easy, there's enough depth for the accessories I need and the shoulder strap means I'm not forced to carry it by hand all day. Sixteen months later the leather has broken in nicely and I haven't had any issues with the construction.

Chocolate finish has aged very well

I've had the chocolate version for nineteen months and the leather has developed a much richer appearance. The areas around the handles have darkened, the front has picked up subtle scratches and there is some lighter wear along the corners. I condition it occasionally but otherwise let it age naturally. The briefcase still holds its shape well and all of the hardware and stitching remains secure.
