Perfect for a light commute

I wanted something slim for my laptop, notebook and a few essentials. This does exactly that without the bulk of a normal briefcase.

Ideal for how I actually work

I've been using the Carlisle several days a week for over a year. I don't carry much beyond my laptop, notebook, charging cable and a few small items, so the very slim profile suits me perfectly. It sits close to the body when worn crossbody and doesn't become cumbersome on the train. The leather has softened slightly and developed a few marks around the edges, but the bag has retained its shape remarkably well. The strap and handle are also still completely secure.

Definitely a slim bag

The 2.5 cm depth is worth paying attention to. This isn't for someone carrying a thick stack of files, a large charger and lots of accessories. I bought it specifically because I only carry the essentials, and for that it's excellent. It keeps everything tidy and looks much cleaner than a bulky laptop case.

Made me carry less

I used to carry a much larger work bag and inevitably filled it with things I never used. The Carlisle forces me to keep the daily carry sensible. Laptop, notebook, a couple of cables and smaller essentials all have enough room. After almost a year I actually prefer working this way and my commute is noticeably easier.

Nearly two years of commuting

Mine has been carried back and forth to work for nearly two years and has aged very nicely. The chestnut leather isn't as uniform as it was when new. There are darker areas where I handle it most often, a few light scratches and some subtle creasing near the edges. That's exactly what I wanted from real leather. More importantly, nothing has failed. The reinforced handle is still secure, the crossbody strap hardware remains solid and the bag hasn't lost its structured appearance.

Organization is simple but effective

There isn't unnecessary storage everywhere. My laptop and the few smaller items I carry stay organized without making the bag complicated.

Not for bulky accessories

My laptop and flat essentials fit very well, but a large charging brick makes things noticeably tighter. Once I swapped to a smaller charger, the bag worked much better for me. I'd recommend this to someone who deliberately wants a slim setup rather than maximum capacity.

Excellent for client visits

I often spend the day moving between our office and client sites, so carrying a large briefcase was becoming annoying. The Carlisle has been a much better option. My laptop and essential documents fit, the crossbody strap makes walking between appointments easy and the structured shape still looks appropriate when I walk into a meeting. Fourteen months of regular use have softened the leather without making the bag floppy.

I chose this partly because I wanted leather that would show some character over time. After nineteen months, the finish has developed beautifully. The areas around the handle are darker, there are small marks along the edges and the surface has more tonal variation than when it arrived. I condition it occasionally but otherwise just use it normally. Despite being carried several times a week, the bag still holds its shape and all of the stitching remains secure.

I specifically wanted something smaller than a standard briefcase. The 35 cm width is plenty for my setup without feeling oversized.

Simple organization works best

I used to buy laptop bags with countless pockets and never remembered where anything was. The Carlisle is much more straightforward. My computer has its place, and the remaining organization is enough for the few things I actually need during the day. I've used it for more than a year and haven't once wished it had a more complicated interior.

Best for a minimal setup

If you routinely carry a water bottle, lunch and large headphones in your work bag, this probably isn't the one. If your daily setup is a laptop and a handful of essentials, the slim design is fantastic.

Two years and still my favorite

I've owned the Carlisle for two years and it's still the bag I reach for whenever I'm heading to the office with just my laptop and essentials. Mine isn't treated delicately. It gets put on the train floor, under my desk and occasionally squeezed beside my carry-on when traveling. After eighteen months, the leather has picked up plenty of small scratches and creases but the bag itself remains in excellent shape. I actually prefer how it looks now because the leather has lost that brand-new uniformity. The handle, stitching and strap attachments have all held up extremely well.

Measure what you carry

The slim depth is the main feature here, so I'd recommend checking the thickness of your laptop and charger before ordering. Mine fit without a problem, but I wouldn't expect to carry bulky accessories alongside them.
