Canvas and leather work well together

I normally buy all-leather bags, but I wanted something a little more casual this time. The canvas keeps the Carter from feeling overly formal while the leather flap and trim give it a much nicer finish than an ordinary canvas backpack. I've been carrying mine to work and on weekends and it fits both situations well.

Useful size

The 41 cm height gives me plenty of space for the things I normally carry. It doesn't feel like a giant travel pack either.

Took some getting used to

I was used to a backpack with several small compartments, so the more straightforward layout felt different at first. After a couple of weeks I actually started preferring it. The front pocket handles the little stuff and I leave the main compartment for everything else.

Still my regular weekend bag

I've had the Carter for a little over a year and it has become the backpack I grab whenever I'm heading out for the day. The canvas has held up well and the leather pieces have developed more character with use. I don't treat it particularly carefully, so I'm impressed by how well the shape and stitching have held up.

The flap sold me

I like the traditional leather flap against the canvas body. Gives the backpack some personality without making it too dressy.

At 29 by 41 by 13 cm, it's a useful everyday size for me. I can carry the things I need for a normal day and still have a bit of room left rather than packing everything tightly.

A nice change from all leather

I already own a leather briefcase and didn't really want another heavy-looking leather bag. The two-tone construction caught my attention because it's more relaxed. The canvas body keeps the overall appearance casual, while the leather trim still makes it feel like a quality piece. It's become a good option for days when a briefcase feels too formal.

Front pocket gets used constantly

I keep my keys, charging cable and a few other small things in the front zipper. Saves me from digging through the main compartment.

Good daily workhorse

This has been used several days a week for about a year now. It goes in the car, gets set on the office floor and comes along on errands afterward. The canvas has handled normal use very well, and I like the way the leather trim is starting to look more broken in.

Coffee looks great

Went with the coffee finish. Understated and easy to wear with pretty much anything.

Simple interior

There isn't an excessive amount of organization inside, which may matter if you like a pocket for every item. I use a couple of small pouches inside the main compartment and that setup works well for me. I do like the spacious interior and quick-access front pocket.

Has aged nicely

The leather accents are probably my favorite part now that I've owned the bag for a while. They have picked up natural creases and variation that weren't there when it was new. The canvas has also softened a little without losing its structure. Overall it has developed a nice used-in look rather than simply looking old.

Good for everyday use

There's enough room for my usual daily things without having a bulky backpack hanging off my shoulders. The 13 cm depth feels about right.

Secure closure

I like having both the flap and zipper rather than relying on the flap alone. Once everything is zipped up and the flap is down, the bag feels properly closed when I'm moving around.

The contrast between the canvas and brown leather is what makes it.

One bag for work and weekends

I originally ordered this because I wanted something more relaxed than my work briefcase. It ended up replacing the briefcase on most days. There's enough room for what I normally need, and the canvas makes the backpack feel casual without looking cheap. On weekends I use it exactly the same way. After a year and a half it has proven to be a very versatile bag.

Light green was the right choice

I almost went with dark gray but chose light green at the last minute. Glad I did. It has some color without being loud.

Easy to carry

The adjustable shoulder straps make getting the fit right straightforward. Comfortable for normal day-to-day walking.

Better than my old canvas bag

I've owned a few inexpensive canvas backpacks and they always started looking tired fairly quickly. This one feels much more substantial. The leather reinforcement and hardware give it a sturdier feel, and after more than a year the bag is still holding its shape nicely. It's definitely a step up from the basic canvas packs I've had before.

A little taller than expected

The 41 cm height felt slightly taller than I pictured when I first put it on. After adjusting the straps it sat much better and I haven't thought about it since. The extra vertical room has actually been useful.

Perfect casual office bag

My workplace isn't particularly formal, so an all-leather briefcase feels like too much most days. This fits the environment better. The leather flap dresses it up a little, but the canvas keeps the overall look relaxed.

Still going strong

Coming up on two years with mine. It has seen a lot of ordinary use and a handful of trips, and I've never been especially careful with it. The canvas has held up, the zipper still runs properly and the leather pieces have developed the sort of worn-in character I was hoping for. I'd happily choose this bag again.

I've learned that I don't actually use most of the little compartments on highly technical backpacks. The Carter keeps things much simpler. I put the small everyday items in the front pocket and everything larger goes into the main compartment. The flap and zipper give me some extra peace of mind when I'm commuting. It's a straightforward design, but that's why it works for me.

Nice weekend backpack

This has become my Saturday bag for errands, coffee shops and days out. Comfortable, roomy and not overly sporty looking.

Canvas shows some use

The lighter canvas naturally shows a little more evidence of everyday use than a dark leather bag would. That doesn't bother me, but it's worth mentioning. I wipe mine down occasionally and overall it has held up well.

Good proportions

29 cm wide and 13 cm deep works nicely for me. Enough usable space while still being easy to carry around town.

After a year the leather trim has softened and picked up a lot more character. I like the contrast even more now than when the bag was new.

Great for commuting

The front pocket is convenient when I'm on the move because I don't need to open the entire bag for small items. The shoulder straps are easy to adjust and have stayed comfortable on my walk to and from work.

A bag I don't have to baby

That's probably my favorite thing about the Carter. It looks good, but I don't feel like I need to treat it like a delicate leather briefcase. Mine gets set on the floor, tossed in the back seat and carried in all kinds of everyday situations. The canvas and leather combination suits that kind of use very well. More than a year later, it looks broken in rather than worn out.

The right amount of casual
