Finally replaced my old work backpack

I carried the same nylon backpack to work for years because it was practical, but I wanted something that looked a little more appropriate when meeting clients. The Everett has been a great replacement. It still gives me the convenience of a backpack, but the full-grain leather and simple shape look much more professional. The laptop compartment keeps my computer separate and I use the front section for cables, keys and other smaller items.

Good laptop fit

My 14-inch laptop fits nicely in the padded compartment without moving around. There's still enough room in the main section for the rest of what I carry.

Slimmer than my previous bag

I was coming from a much deeper backpack, so the 12 cm depth took a little adjustment. I can't throw absolutely everything into it, but that's actually made my commute easier because I'm carrying less unnecessary stuff. For a laptop, notebook, charger and everyday work items, the size works very well.

Holding up very well

I've used this several days a week for well over a year. It gets carried on the train, put under my desk and occasionally comes with me on short business trips. The leather has softened quite a bit since it was new and has developed some natural creasing, but the stitching and zippers have stayed solid. It feels properly broken in now rather than worn out.

Front pocket is useful

I keep my charger, keys and a couple of cables in the front section. Much easier than having everything loose in the main compartment.

A proper work backpack

This is exactly the middle ground I wanted between a briefcase and a casual backpack. It looks polished enough for the office but I still have both hands free during my commute. The structured shape also helps it look neat even when I haven't filled the main compartment completely.

Good everyday size

At 29 by 40 cm it feels like a sensible daily backpack rather than a large travel pack. Enough room for my work essentials without carrying a huge bag around.

Leather looks better now

Mine has been used regularly for about a year and a half and the leather has changed quite a bit. It was more structured when new, but it has softened and developed natural variations from being carried every day. That's exactly what I wanted from a full-grain leather bag. The backpack itself has stayed dependable throughout.

Easy to organize

The combination of interior and exterior pockets is enough for me without going overboard. I can separate my smaller items while keeping the main compartment open for larger things.

Leather starts fairly structured

The bag was firmer than I expected when it first arrived. After several months of commuting it has softened noticeably while still holding its overall shape. If you're expecting very soft leather straight out of the box, give it some time.

My weekday bag

This goes to the office with me Monday through Friday. Laptop in the padded section, notebook and lunch in the main compartment, smaller items in front. It's a straightforward layout and that's why I like it.

Comfortable on the train

I have about a fifteen-minute walk on either side of my train ride and the shoulder straps have been comfortable. The padded back panel is also nice when the bag is loaded.

No unnecessary buckles or decoration. Just a simple leather backpack that works with office clothes as easily as jeans.

Has taken plenty of daily use

I'm coming up on two years with mine and haven't treated it particularly gently. It gets put on the floor at work, rides in the passenger seat and has been through plenty of commutes and a few trips. The leather shows normal signs of use now, which I personally like, but the important parts have held up. The zippers still run smoothly and the straps feel secure.

Right size for my commute

I deliberately wanted something narrower and less bulky than the backpack I was replacing. The 12 cm depth is enough for my normal workday carry while keeping the bag close to my back on crowded trains.

I used to carry a leather messenger bag to work, but having all the weight on one shoulder was getting old. The Everett gives me the same professional look with much better weight distribution. I particularly appreciate the padded shoulder straps and back panel during longer walks. After more than a year, I don't miss the messenger bag at all.

The padded compartment was important to me because I carry my computer almost every day. It keeps the laptop separate instead of having it sitting loose against everything else.

Not a huge backpack

Worth knowing that this is more of an everyday laptop bag than a large travel backpack. I wouldn't choose it if I regularly carried bulky clothing or a lot of equipment. For my office setup, though, the proportions are much better than carrying a half-empty oversized bag.

Simple but practical

I don't like backpacks with dozens of tiny pockets because I end up forgetting where I put things. This has enough separation to stay organized without becoming complicated. The front pocket takes the smaller items and the main compartment handles everything else.

Still feels solid

After almost a year and a half of regular use, nothing has loosened up or started feeling flimsy. The stitching around the straps is still neat and the zippers work just as smoothly as they did at the beginning. The leather itself has softened considerably and has some creasing now, but that's part of why I bought full-grain leather in the first place.

Good business travel bag

I've taken it on a few short work trips and it has been ideal for carrying my laptop and the things I want with me during the flight. It also looks much more appropriate walking into a meeting than my old sporty backpack.

Doesn't stick out too far

One of my biggest complaints about my previous backpack was how far it projected from my back when loaded. The Everett has a noticeably cleaner profile, which is especially helpful when I'm commuting.

Two years later

This has been my primary work backpack for roughly two years now. At this point the leather has softened, developed creases and picked up the small marks you'd expect from hundreds of days of use. I prefer it that way. More importantly, it has remained functional throughout. The straps, stitching and zippers are all still doing their jobs and I haven't felt any need to replace it.

Useful top handle

I use the shoulder straps when walking but grab the top handle constantly getting on and off the train. Small detail, but a useful one.

Wish it held a little more

For normal office days the size is excellent. I occasionally wish there were another inch or two of depth when I'm carrying extra items, but I realize that would also take away from the slim profile that attracted me to the bag in the first place.

Professional without being formal

That's probably the best way I can describe it. It looks much nicer than a fabric laptop backpack, but it doesn't feel as formal or old-fashioned as carrying a briefcase. I can take it to the office and then use the same bag on the weekend without it looking out of place.

Everything has a place

Laptop gets its own padded section, cables and small items stay in the front, and the main compartment is left for notebooks and the rest of my daily carry. Straightforward and easy to use.

Gets better as it breaks in

The bag looked very clean and structured when it arrived, but I actually like it considerably more now. Regular use has softened the leather and given the surface some natural variation. It still holds its shape well enough for the office, but it no longer has that brand-new stiffness. Nearly two years of commuting hasn't given me any reason to doubt the construction either.

Even with my laptop and charger inside, the padded shoulder straps distribute the weight nicely. The soft back panel also keeps it comfortable when I'm walking between buildings.
