The pockets are what sold me. Everything has a place without the bag feeling complicated.

My regular work bag

I've gone through several backpacks over the years, usually because I either ran out of room or got tired of digging around for small things. The Hastings has been much easier to keep organized. I use the main section for the bigger items and the front and side pockets for things I want to get to quickly. It has become the bag I grab every morning without thinking about it.

Good laptop fit

My 15-inch laptop fits nicely in the interior compartment and I still have room for the rest of what I carry during the day.

A little firm at first

The leather was stiffer than I expected out of the box. After a few weeks of carrying it, it started to soften and feels much better now. Otherwise I've been very happy with the backpack.

Still holding up

A year of regular use and it's still going strong.

Pockets actually get used

A lot of bags advertise a dozen features that I never end up using. The layout on this one is different. I use the front zip pocket constantly and the side pockets are convenient for things I want separate from the main compartment.

Better after a year

Mine definitely doesn't look brand new anymore, which is exactly what I wanted from a leather backpack. The surface has picked up some natural marks and variation, and the leather has softened considerably. More importantly, the bag itself has stayed dependable through a lot of commuting and everyday use.

Comfortable when loaded

The padded shoulder straps do a good job when I have the bag filled for work. I usually have a decent walk from the parking garage and haven't had any issues with comfort.

Made commuting easier

I commute several days a week and wanted something that could handle my laptop and daily stuff without turning into a giant pack. The Hastings has been a good fit. I especially appreciate having separate exterior pockets because I can grab smaller items without opening the whole bag every time.

Plenty of useful space

The 14 cm depth gives it more usable room than some of the slimmer leather backpacks I considered. It still sits comfortably on my back.

Has taken a beating

This hasn't been treated gently. It gets carried to work, tossed into the car and used on plenty of weekends. After a year and a half the leather has plenty of character, but the stitching, zippers and overall structure have held up remarkably well.

Easy to organize

The front and side pockets keep the small stuff from disappearing into the bottom of the main compartment.

Slightly bigger than expected

It has a little more depth than I pictured from the photos. That took a couple of days to get used to, but I've come to appreciate the extra room. It carries my workday things comfortably without needing to pack everything tightly.

A practical work backpack

Nothing fancy about how I use it. Laptop goes in its compartment, paperwork and other daily items go in the main section, and the smaller things get divided between the exterior pockets. It keeps my workday organized and that's exactly what I needed.

Good leather gets better

One of the reasons I chose this bag was because I wanted leather that would change with use rather than stay looking perfectly new. That's exactly what has happened. It has softened, picked up some creases and developed a much richer appearance. The backpack has also stayed solid despite being used several times a week.

Top handle is handy

I carry it on my shoulders when I'm walking but probably use the top handle just as often getting it in and out of the car. Nice practical detail.

Finally enough organization

My previous backpack basically had one big compartment, which meant everything ended up in a pile. This is much better for me. The front zip section handles the smaller items, the side pockets are useful during the day, and the main compartment still has plenty of room for the bigger things I carry.

Works well for the office

I wanted leather but didn't want something overly formal. This still looks like a normal backpack, just much nicer than the synthetic one I had before. It's been a good everyday office bag.

Everything fits

My laptop, notebook, charger and the other things I bring to work fit without having to force the zipper closed. The separate laptop compartment is especially useful because it keeps the computer from mixing with everything else.

Good backpack, some weight to it

It's a substantial leather bag and feels a little heavier than the fabric backpack it replaced. That was noticeable at first. The padded straps help once it's on my shoulders though, and I've gotten used to the difference.

Two years and counting

I bought this expecting it to be a long-term bag and that's what it has turned into. It has been through countless workdays and quite a few trips over the past two years. The leather is softer and has considerably more character now, but the bag still does its job every day. I wouldn't trade that worn-in look for a brand-new one.

Side pockets are useful

I didn't think much about the side pockets when ordering, but I use them constantly. It's nice having quick-access storage without taking space away from the main compartment.

Much better than my old pack

For years I carried a basic black nylon backpack because it was convenient, even though I never particularly liked how it looked. I finally decided to replace it with something more substantial. This gives me the same practicality but feels far more appropriate for work and has enough separate storage that I'm actually more organized than before.

Nice everyday proportions

At 38 cm tall it feels like a daily backpack rather than a large travel pack. That's what I wanted. It has enough depth to carry a useful amount while still being manageable for commuting.

Good for busy days

I spend a lot of my workday moving between different locations, so being able to keep things separated matters. The front and side storage lets me reach the smaller items quickly instead of opening the main zipper every time. It's a simple thing, but it makes the backpack noticeably easier to use.

My weekday carry

This has been my weekday bag for well over a year. I usually carry a laptop, paperwork, chargers and a handful of smaller items, so the multi-pocket setup is genuinely useful rather than decorative. The shoulder straps have remained comfortable and the leather is starting to look nicely broken in.

Color has some variation

The leather had a little more natural variation than I expected based on the photos. At first I wasn't sure about it, but after using the bag for a while I think the variation suits it. Definitely doesn't look mass produced.

Good value for me

I hesitated over spending this much on a backpack, but I wanted something I wouldn't be replacing again in a year. Six months isn't forever, but so far the stitching, zippers and leather have all held up very well. It feels like money better spent than buying another cheap bag.

Laptop fits, pockets are useful and it's comfortable on the walk from the train.

Has aged really well

After more than a year and a half, the leather has become noticeably softer and the surface has developed the kind of worn-in character I was hoping for. It has been carried regularly rather than sitting in a closet, and the construction still feels solid. That's about the best compliment I can give a daily bag.

A place for everything

The main reason this works for me is the organization. I don't carry anything unusual, but I do carry a lot of little things along with my laptop. Being able to divide those between the front pocket, side pockets and main interior means I'm not constantly searching for something at the bottom.

Husband uses it every day

Bought this for my husband to replace an old work backpack that was falling apart. He especially likes all the separate pockets and has been carrying it almost every weekday since.

Exactly what I hoped for

Nearly two years later, this is still one of the better bags I've owned. The size works for a normal day, the laptop compartment keeps my computer separate, and the extra pockets mean the small stuff doesn't disappear. The leather has softened and picked up plenty of character along the way. It feels like a backpack that's been mine for years rather than one I'm trying to keep looking new.
