Perfect when I don't need a backpack

I've been using the Rene regularly for well over a year. It's become my go-to bag for weekends, errands and travel days when carrying a backpack feels unnecessary. I normally have my phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, earbuds and a small power bank inside. The upright shape keeps everything organized without making the bag bulky. The leather has softened considerably since it was new and now has a few creases and marks that give it much more character.

Strap needed some breaking in

The strap felt fairly stiff when the bag arrived. After a couple of months of regular use it has softened and sits much more comfortably.

Good organization

I like having separate spaces for the smaller things rather than everything collecting at the bottom.

Feels much nicer than my old synthetic crossbody.

Has traveled everywhere with me

This little bag has been surprisingly useful for travel. I keep my passport, wallet, phone, earbuds, charging cable and power bank in it so I don't have to keep opening my main luggage. The compact dimensions make it easy to wear through airports and busy stations. After eighteen months, the leather is noticeably softer and has developed a natural worn appearance. The zipper and strap attachments are still working perfectly.

Definitely compact

Don't expect messenger-bag capacity from it. It's designed for essentials, and once I stopped trying to overpack it I found the size very convenient.

Comfortable for walking

It stays close to my side and doesn't swing around much, even when I'm walking quickly.

Holding up beautifully

I've carried mine several times a week for almost two years. The corners and edges have picked up some wear and the leather isn't perfectly uniform anymore, but that's actually what I like most about it now. The body has softened without becoming floppy and the stitching still looks excellent. I've also had no trouble with the main zipper despite opening it constantly throughout the day.

Fits my tablet

My smaller 8-inch tablet fits nicely and I can still get my phone and wallet in beside it.

A little firm when new

The leather felt quite structured at first. Six months later it has relaxed nicely while still keeping the rectangular shape.

One of those bags you actually use

I own larger and more expensive bags, but this is probably the one I use most. The size is perfect for the handful of things I take with me every day, and because it's only 17 cm wide it never feels cumbersome. The interior organization is simple but useful. More than a year in, the leather has softened, the surface has developed a bit of character and all the stitching remains intact.

Easy to open one-handed and I haven't had it catch on anything so far.

Could use a little more depth

Seven centimeters is enough for my normal essentials, although bulky sunglasses cases take up quite a bit of the available room. For flat items and a small tablet it's excellent.

Ideal for crowded cities

I bought this before a long trip because I wanted something smaller than a messenger bag. It turned out to be exactly right. I could keep my phone, passport, wallet and charger close without carrying a bulky bag through crowded streets and trains. The zipper opening also makes everything easy to access. After seventeen months of regular use, the leather looks more broken-in but the bag itself is still in excellent shape.

Adjusts easily

Plenty of adjustment in the strap. I can wear it fairly high or let it sit lower depending on what I'm wearing.

Great everyday alternative to a sling

I wanted something more traditional-looking than a nylon sling bag but with roughly the same convenience. The Rene has worked perfectly. It carries my daily essentials and an 8-inch tablet without looking overfilled. The upright design also makes it easy to find things because they aren't spread across a wide compartment. I've had it for over a year and it's becoming softer and more comfortable with use.

Shows little marks

The leather does pick up surface marks fairly easily. Most rub out or blend into the grain, so I'm treating it as part of the aging process.

Surprisingly roomy

For such a small footprint it carries quite a lot. Phone, wallet, keys, earbuds and power bank fit with no problem.

Still looks great after heavy use

Mine has been thrown into larger bags, carried on flights and used for countless weekends away. The leather now has plenty of small scratches and creases, but structurally it's been extremely dependable. The main zipper still runs smoothly, the strap clips haven't loosened and the seams around the bottom remain tight. I expected a compact bag to be more of an occasional piece, but this has ended up getting used constantly.

I prefer the vertical layout because it sits neatly against my body and takes up very little space.

Not for carrying everything

This works best when you stick to the essentials. Once I add a large wallet, thick glasses case and power bank it gets fairly full, but that's expected from a compact crossbody.

Perfect companion for short trips

I use this as my small personal bag whenever I'm traveling with a backpack or suitcase. It keeps the important things immediately accessible without adding much bulk. My passport, phone, wallet, earbuds and charger all fit easily, and I can squeeze in my small tablet when needed. Fifteen months of travel has softened the leather considerably, but there are no loose seams or problems with the zipper.

The leather gets better with age

Almost two years later, the leather has developed a much nicer appearance than it had straight out of the box. It's softer, slightly darker in the areas I handle most and covered with subtle marks from regular use. The bag hasn't lost its shape despite the softer leather. I've also been impressed by the zipper and strap hardware, both of which are still functioning without any issues.

Would prefer a wider strap

The strap is comfortable for the amount I normally carry, although I'd personally prefer it slightly wider. The bag itself has been excellent.

A year of almost daily use

I bought this thinking it would mainly be a travel bag, but I've ended up carrying it most days.
