Exactly what I wanted for commuting

I've used the Rufus several days a week for well over a year. My main requirement was something that could take my laptop without looking or feeling like a bulky computer bag. The slim profile has been excellent on the train, and the long handles make it easy to grab when I'm moving between meetings. The leather has developed some creasing and darker areas from use, but the bag still holds its shape nicely. The stitching around the handles has also remained completely secure.

Very slim by design

The 3 cm depth is important to keep in mind. This isn't a tote for carrying lunch, a water bottle and lots of bulky accessories alongside your computer. For a laptop, documents and flatter everyday essentials, though, the design works extremely well and stays much neater than a traditional large briefcase.

A much better office bag

I switched to this after years of carrying a nylon laptop bag. The difference is considerable. The Rufus looks much cleaner when I'm meeting clients, but it hasn't sacrificed the practical side. My laptop and documents fit easily and the flap keeps the exterior looking uncluttered. After nearly a year, the chocolate leather has also started developing a really nice broken-in appearance.

Ages exactly how I hoped

Mine is coming up on two years old and looks completely different from the day it arrived, in a good way. The chocolate leather has become richer around the handles and there are lighter scratches and creases across the body. I don't try to keep it pristine because I actually prefer the character it has developed. Structurally it has held up very well. The handles are still firmly attached, the flap sits properly and none of the stitching has started coming loose.

Best for flatter items

I initially tried carrying everything from my old work bag and quickly realized that isn't what this tote is designed for. Once I removed the bulky headphones and large power brick, it made much more sense. Laptop, documents, notebook and smaller accessories fit very nicely. The reward is a bag that stays remarkably slim.

Excellent for client meetings

I bought the Rufus because I wanted something less traditional than a briefcase but still professional enough to take into meetings. It has been exactly that. The clean flap design doesn't have unnecessary buckles or pockets all over the exterior, and the dark chocolate leather works with pretty much anything I wear to the office. More than a year later, it has softened slightly without becoming floppy.

The patina is the best part

After eighteen months, mine has developed much more variation than it had originally. The handles have darkened where I grip them, there are small marks across the front and the edges have softened slightly. I condition it every few months but otherwise just let the leather age naturally. The overall shape is still neat and the stitching around the flap and handles remains in very good condition.

Makes me carry only what I need

My previous briefcase was much deeper, which meant I constantly filled it with things I rarely used. The Rufus has changed that. I carry my laptop, a notebook, a thin document folder, charger and a few smaller essentials. That's enough for almost every normal workday, and the bag is much easier to deal with on public transport.

Leather softens with use

It arrived a little firmer than I expected, particularly around the flap and handles. After several months of use it has softened nicely while still keeping its overall structure.

Still using it after two years

I've carried this to work for roughly two years now and it has held up better than I expected. It has been on trains, planes and countless walks through the city. There are scratches and creases all over the leather now, but they've blended into the chocolate finish and given it much more character. The important parts haven't deteriorated. The handles remain strong, the stitching is intact and the flap closure still works as it should.

The 43 cm width works well for my computer and documents. I appreciate that they didn't add unnecessary depth.

Useful for business trips

I've taken this on several short work trips alongside a small suitcase. My laptop, documents and the things I need during the journey stay in the Rufus while everything bulky goes into my luggage. The slim shape makes it easy to manage in airports, and I can take it directly into a meeting when I arrive without switching bags.

Takes everyday wear very well

I don't baby this bag at all. It gets placed on office floors, train seats and wherever else is convenient during the day. Seventeen months of that has left plenty of small marks on the leather, but nothing that looks like actual damage. If anything, I prefer the finish now. The handles and reinforced stitching have taken the weight of my laptop without any obvious signs of weakness.

Check the depth

At only 3 cm deep, this is much closer to a slim laptop tote than a general-purpose carryall. That's perfect for me, but anyone who carries bulky items should keep that in mind.

A good alternative to a traditional briefcase

I wanted a work bag that didn't look quite as formal as a standard rectangular briefcase but still felt appropriate in a professional environment. The Rufus hits that balance very well. The tote shape is simple, the flap gives it some character and the dark leather keeps everything looking refined. It's also much less cumbersome than the larger briefcase I used before.

16-inch laptop fits

I specifically bought it for a larger laptop and haven't had an issue with the width. Still stays surprisingly slim when loaded.

Chocolate leather has matured beautifully

After nineteen months of regular use, the leather has a lot more depth than it did when new. The handles have darkened, the body has picked up subtle creases and scratches and the edges show some natural wear. I condition it occasionally and that's about it. The bag itself remains structurally sound and still has the clean silhouette that made me choose it in the first place.

Just enough capacity

Carries the essentials for my workday without becoming another oversized bag that I end up overfilling.
